Overcoming the Shadows of Failure when starting a business
"I'M NOT DOING ENOUGH!"
"MY TO-DO LIST IS SO LONG!"
"THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE BY NOW!"
"I FEEL SO LAZY!"
If you've found yourself uttering these phrases or their variations, know that you're not alone – I've been there too.
What's the true measure of "enough," and why does it feel like you're falling short? Shouldn't the act of embracing a new day, ready to face whatever it holds, be Enough?
Here's a gem: "I SHOULD BE UP THERE, ACCOMPLISHING THINGS... NOT DOWN HERE, TALKING ABOUT THEM." It often seems like everyone else is conquering the world.
First things first – let's pause!
Whatever "everyone else" seems to be doing is no different from what you're doing – facing a new day. How they choose to navigate it is uniquely their own, and there's no universal benchmark to define that path.
Allow me to offer a few reflections for those moments when the shadows of failure loom large. These moments will come again, and that's okay – perhaps these insights will help.
Your to-do list is a labyrinth.
Kudos for making that list! Now, ask yourself: Are all these tasks equally crucial? Did the list materialize out of necessity, or from a sense of obligation? Identify three items (or focus on one major task) to tackle today.
Completing one task entirely is far more gratifying than leaving a trail of half-done endeavors.
Time is elusive, and tasks overflow.
Revisit the first point, and if you still feel pressured after considering those questions, here's another to ponder: Is it essential to shoulder every burden alone, or could some tasks be delegated?
Jot down pros (activities that bring joy) and cons (the necessary but unpleasant duties). What are you willing to entrust to others? Why do you hesitate to let go of certain responsibilities?
Distractions overpower your focus.
Could it be time for a break? Radical thought, right? Consider: Is it better to force work when motivation is lacking, or should you grant yourself the grace of self-care? When was the last time you nurtured your well-being?
If motivation is waning, why insist on pushing further? Acknowledge your feelings and where you stand. If this state of mind troubles you, who or what could provide support? Shift your focus from pushing through tasks to healing your soul. Trust me, it's okay.
Feeling lost or trapped.
This experience might surface, particularly amid unforeseen changes. Change remains a constant, yet navigating it is smoother when you're prepared. Sadly, life thrives on unpredictability. So, ask yourself: What triggered this? How long have you felt this way? Is there a need for support? If so, what form of assistance? Whom can you turn to?
Grant yourself compassion. Adapting to a new normal has no predetermined timeline. View this "non-action" phase as your personal metamorphosis: though physical action might be dormant, what's unfolding mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? Remember, these aspects hold immense significance; allocate the attention they deserve. Soon, you'll emerge like a butterfly from its cocoon – transformed and radiant.
